_ SYNPOSIS

'KATA', is a short film about Mahiro Takano, Japan's karate prodigy. Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival 2021, KATA takes us on a journey that encompasses the pillars of the ancient art.

Filmed in a temple’s bamboo garden outside the bustling city of Tokyo, KATA’s set stretched from dusk to dawn; juxtaposing the darkness and light in contemplation.

_ PROCESS

The short film’s key moment is conjured when Mahiro is facing herself, light facing darkness.
Using the matched angles of camera robot footage, we created the surreal composition in post.

_ Behind the scenes

Using a miniature camera in the crowded set and amidst pillars of bamboo, a complimentary BTS film was created in order to document the process.
